Risk Management and Life Safety for the Food and Dairy Industry
Recent world events have dramatically expanded safety and security issues for the food industry. Vern Jackson, IDC's Vice President of Food & Consumer Products, presented a life safety system adapted for food manufacturers from a program initially developed for the microelectronics industry. Plant and personnel security options included: perimeter management surveillance/detection/prevention, siting and architectural design for safety, air quality, water quality, emergency preparedness, and emergency response planning. Current food and dairy plant security programs were discussed. Late breaking security issues were incorporated into this program as appropriate.

Demineralized Whey Yielding Higher Returns for Dairies and Ingredient Buyers
Two innovative approaches for demineralized whey production were presented by IDC's Senior Process Engineer along with a current look at market trends for producers and buyers. What was once regarded as a high-cost waste product is now viewed as a high-value revenue source, since today's technology allows whey to be extracted from waste discharge and processed for high returns. This brief state-of-the-art interactive presentation took a look at the value added side of whey production and whey products. IDC covered whey from the viewpoint of producers, ingredient suppliers, and end users such as food processors, infant formula manufacturers, and nutriceutical manufacturers. The presentation was designed for CEOs, COOs, R&D, and plant managers.
